20th Aegina Music Festival: Celebrating Two Decades of Musical Excellence

The Aegina Music Festival returns in the summer of 2026 to celebrate its 20th anniversary, reaffirming its place as one of Greece’s most respected and enduring cultural events. From 3 to 22 August, the island of Aegina will host an outstanding series of concerts featuring acclaimed Greek and international artists, offering audiences unforgettable musical experiences in some of the island’s most picturesque venues.

Under the artistic direction of Dora Bakopoulou and Elena Chounta, the festival continues its tradition of presenting classical music, vocal performances, musical theatre, and chamber music while maintaining the educational and accessible spirit that has distinguished it for two decades.

Concerts will take place at the Courtyard of the Church of the Saviour, the Molfesis Theatre in Pachia Rachi, and Avra Beach, transforming Aegina once again into a vibrant meeting point for artists and music lovers.

Since its inception, the Aegina Music Festival has presented more than 150 concerts, featuring 570 musicians from Greece and abroad, earning a prominent place on the country’s cultural calendar.

Highlights of the 2026 Programme
The festival opens on 3 August with “Quanto amore!”, an evening dedicated to love and romance through opera, musical theatre, and Greek song repertoire.

The programme also features performances by acclaimed guitarist Dimitris Soukaras, soprano Afrodite Patoulidou, and internationally renowned pianist Dora Bakopoulou alongside distinguished collaborators. Audiences will also enjoy a special tribute to the art of piano performance by rising virtuosos Manos Kitsikopoulos and Philevos Gatzios.

Among the festival’s highlights are a vibrant Musical Night curated by Elena Chounta, as well as “White Nights”, featuring mezzo-soprano Lenia Zafeiropoulou and pianist Theodoris Tzovanakis, celebrating the music of Sibelius and Tchaikovsky.

The festival’s international collaborations continue with a performance by Duo Minerva, presented in partnership with the Austrian Embassy, and a distinguished chamber music evening featuring internationally acclaimed musicians Lily Maisky, Alisa Margulis, Natalia Margulis, and Lyda Argerich, in collaboration with the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki.

Grand Closing Concert
The festival concludes on Saturday, 22 August, with a special tribute concert dedicated to legendary Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis at Avra Beach.

Celebrated artists Alkinoos Ioannidis and Elli Paspala will perform some of Hadjidakis’ most beloved songs, accompanied by Dora Bakopoulou on piano, in what promises to be one of the most memorable cultural events of the summer.

All concerts begin at 21:00, and each performance will be preceded by a brief introduction designed to help audiences gain deeper insight into the works and composers featured, further highlighting the festival’s educational mission.
