Five captains, five vessels, five destinations in the Saronic

You will reach Aegina, Agistri, Poros and Methana with the Saronic Ferries ships: Poseidon Hellas, Antigoni, Achaios, Fivos and Apollon Hellas.

The Captains on the bridge are Vasilis Pachopos, Giorgos Diakakis, Yiannis Moraitis, Christos Skarpelis and Stratos Teknakis.

Wouldn't you like to know where is the right spot to stand on the ship to have the best view when arriving at Aegina?

Or what is the most beautiful image that the Captain sees when approaching the port? Or what is their opinion about each destination?

The five Captains share everything that we, passengers would like to know about them.

When else have you had the opportunity to get to know so well the people who have taken on the task of getting you to your destination safely while you are enjoying your trip?

“When the boat is full of people, we feel like we are really contirbuting. However, there are times when you feel useful even if there is not a single passenger on board. In the winter, you struggle to dock at a port with the sole purpose of leaving a package of medicine, because a person’s life may depend on it” Captain George Diakakis tells us.

Let's see all the destinations.

The Captain of Poseidon Hellas, Vasilis Pachopos, will take you to Aegina

From the captain's perspective, where is the right spot on the ship for the passenger to have the best view as soon as she/he arrives at the port of Aegina? Where should one stand?
When the ship approaches with the bow, the ideal view of the port of Aegina is to be on the left side of the ship.

What would you like passengers heading to Aegina to know about the ship's captain?
Since I was a little child, I was determined to become a Captain. Since I was 16, I have been working on ships. Since I was 32, I have been a Captain. Today, at 37 years old, I have 20 years of experience on 18 ships, while in the last 5 years I have worked on almost all of Saronic Ferries' ships.

You will arrive in Souvala with the Captain of Antigoni, Yiannis Moraitis

What is the best place on the ship for the passenger to best enjoy their trip from Piraeus to Souvala in Aegina?

I believe that the best place for the passenger is on the outer deck at the back of the ship, under the pergola where they will have shade and can enjoy something from the bar.

What would you like passengers heading to Souvala to know about the captain of the ship?

To know that their captain is experienced and will do everything to ensure a safe and peaceful trip to Souvala in Aegina.

You will arrive in Poros with the Captain of Phivos, Christos Skarpelis

What is the most beautiful view that one sees from the bridge as one approaches Poros?
Poros is an island that captivates you from the moment you start crossing its narrow canal until you arrive at the main port! The combination of the crystal blue waters, the lush vegetation of the island, the beautiful island neoclassical houses and the historic Clock that dominates the town, is an image that no matter how many times you see it from the bridge of the ship, it always enchants you like a unique painting.

What would you like passengers bound for Poros to know about the ship's captain?
As a new captain on the ferry Phoivos, my goal is to make your trip a unique, pleasant experience, to travel together safely and to be able to discover with us the beauties hidden in the wonderful island-treasure called Poros.

The Captain of Apollon Hellas, Stratos Teknakis, will take you to Methana

Methana remain a relatively unknown destination for many. What makes them different from other destinations in the Saronic Gulf?
Methana is a place that has many interesting activities, especially for those who will visit it in the summer. When we say Methana, many people, due to the ferry connection, think of an island in the Saronic Gulf. In reality, however, Methana is not an island, but a beautiful peninsula with many interesting things. In Methana, you can find beautiful beaches such as Agios Georgios, Moucha, Paleokastro and many others for family enjoyment with children. There are also different hiking trails for nature lovers that combine mountain and sea where you can admire the rare flora and many volcanic craters. One of the most popular and interesting attractions in Methana are the thermal baths which, if you visit them, will definitely offer you a summer wellness. In conclusion, I believe that Methana is a destination worth visiting with your family for a nice and peaceful time.

What would you like passengers heading to Methana to know about the ship's captain?
My name is Teknakis Stratos, I am the captain of APOLLON HELLAS and I have traveled the Aegean and Ionian seas as a captain for several years. Before I came as a captain to the Saronic Line, I thought that the challenges you encounter as a Captain on other islands, the more distant ones, did not exist, and yet I was very happy to find that the work you offer as a Captain on the Saronic Islands is equally important and that ultimately the distance does not matter, but that these islands are always connected by ships during both winter and summer.

Every season that you approach the port of Methana is special for the captain.

In the summer months, it is the joy that you see on the faces of those on board, knowing that your mission is to take them safely with their families on the most carefree days of the year for them: for their holidays. So you, in turn, must contribute with your crew, so that their trip is a beautiful start to their holidays. And when the vacations end, the beautiful trip in the waters of the Saronic Gulf will be the last image of their holidays.

In winter, things are different, the pier of Methana reminds you of a port on a remote island and I say this not because of the kilometer-long distance from Athens but because of the difficult road network that makes some permanent residents prefer to travel there by ship. So, arriving at the port of Methana, you know that you will meet very few people at the pier, but for them you are the connection to the capital, without the road hassle, so again, the feelings as a captain are many: you know that you will offer to some people their transport with peace and help them avoid the road hassle.

You will arrive in Agistri in the company of the Captain of Achaeos, Giorgos Diakakis

What makes Agistri stand out from the other destinations in the Saronic Gulf?

Agistri still remains pure as a place with many hidden destinations and beaches for all ages such as Skala, Megalochori, Dragonera, Skleri, Halikiada, Mareza in Limenaria and Aponisos.

It provides you with both marine and terrestrial beauty, since it is full of pine trees. For me, Agistri is a hidden treasure within the Saronic islands complex, offering everything a visitor who likes the combination of sea and mountain for hiking could want.

What would you like passengers heading to Agistri to know about the ship's captain?
My name is Diakakis Georgios and I am the Captain of the ship Achaeos. A ship that serves two of the most beautiful islands of the Saronic, Aegina and Agistri, two beautiful but different islands, each with special gifts. I love the mental freedom and suspense that the sea offers me: moments when you get into a routine, but at any moment something different can happen, since the most "unpredictable cargo" that is the human being is transported on our ships.

You transport human souls and, naturally, this creates a huge sense of responsibility. When the boat is full of people, we feel that we are truly contributing. However, there are cases when you feel useful even if there is not a single passenger on board. In the winter, you struggle to dock at a port with the sole purpose of leaving a package of medicines, because a person's life may depend on it. What you offer is very important, it is a work that many do not understand, but you feel a mental joy in everything you do and everything you offer!

On the way to beautiful Agistri, your soul rejoices, gazing at the sea, seagulls, ships. Moments that are unique, helping you you arrive at your destination with a different mood, leaving all of Athens and your everyday life behind in just an hour and thirty minutes. Ready for exploration, tranquility and vacation in Agistri...
