(Everything) we leave for a tomorrow that will never come...

The Greek National Opera is launching its collaboration with the Municipal Regional Theatre of Kavala, strengthening the network of partnerships with institutions from all over the country and supporting new artistic creation. As part of this action, and through the new joint initiative “The Philippi Festival travels to the National Opera”, the four new productions of this year’s 68th Philippi Festival will travel to Athens, under the auspices of the GNO, from 12 to 16 September 2025. These are commissions from the institution, organized by the Municipal Theatre of Kavala, to new creators.

(All) that we leave for a tomorrow that will never come...

15 and 16 September 2025

the performance will be presented on board, on the Piraeus - Aegina route, transforming the ship into a stage and the journey into an experience.

Departure time: 18.15 (Gate E8, Port of Piraeus, ship "Antigone" of the Saronic company)
Arrival time for boarding: 17.30

Duration: 70 minutes

Inspired by the work and life of Chronis Missios, a writer and resistance fighter from Kavala, to whom the Philippi Festival is dedicated, and guided by the paradoxical equation of generosity 8-3=11, the performances develop in an open dialogue with the theme of the institution, connecting speech, music and performance with the space and the audience.

(Everything), what we leave for a tomorrow that will never come...

"We have divided the day into corpses of moments, into dead hours that we will bury within ourselves, within the caves of our being, in the caves where the freedom of desire is born, and we fill them with all kinds of shit and garbage that pass us off as "values", as "morality", as "civilization". We have made our bodies an immense cemetery of murdered desires and expectations, we leave the most important, the most essential things...Everything, we leave everything for a tomorrow that will never come..." H.M.

On the ship connecting Piraeus to Aegina, a performance takes place inspired by truths expressed by Chronis Missios, an ode to what we did not dare: to the desires that remained half-said, to the words that never found a mouth to be spoken, to the gazes that were turned elsewhere. To all that we did not experience - but also to what we can still experience.

It is not just a familiar journey, but an experience. For a Movement. For a Transition. For a return. For a Departure without a destination. A journey that is not always made to arrive, but to get lost a little. There we will meet a self that has taken another path, that is in another phase, that lives another life, that is illuminated under another light.

The director of the performance, Marios Kakoullis, notes: “The stage (and its world) becomes a fluid space, suspended somewhere between ports, memories and fantasies. Phrases, texts and images from the life and work of Chronis Missios will feed the core of the performance, will illuminate the unspeakable, will stand next to what was not said, but persisted. And the performance, a gesture towards the elusive.”
